Zygielbojm, Samuel Arthur

Zygielbojm, Samuel Arthur
(1895–1943)
Samuel Arthur Zygielbojm, a Jewish Bundist (socialist) labor leader and a member of the Polish parliament-in-exile in London, committed suicide on 12 May 1943, when word of the liquidation of Warsaw’s Jews reached him. Among those slain in the Warsaw ghetto uprising were his wife, Manya, and his 16-year-old son, Tuvia. In the letter he wrote before he took his life, Zygielbojm condemned the world’s indifference to the mass murder of Polish Jewry and the lack of assistance to the Warsaw ghetto fighters.
