Vichy France
The southern part of France, which was not occupied by the Germans after France’s defeat in 1940, and the headquarters of the government headed by Marshal Philippe Petain. Vichy France collaborated with the Germans and passed laws in tandem with Germany’s anti-Semitic laws. The Vichy regime especially cooperated in the deportation of French Jews to Auschwitz. The Germans eventually occupied Vichy in November 1942.
