   In the concentration camps the prisoners were categorized according to nationality and the causes for their incarceration. This took the form of identifying inmates by the color of the triangular patches that were required to be worn on their clothes. For example, homosexuals were required to wear a pink triangular patch, communists a red triangle, criminals wore green, Jehovah’s Witnesses wore purple, “asocials” wore black, Gypsies were identified by brown triangles, and the Jews by a yellow Star of David. Foreigners had a letter printed on their triangles. For example, the Poles were marked with the letter P, the French an F, and so on.
