Self-Cleansing Efforts
   In Lithuania, following the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union, Reinhard Heydrich ordered his Einsatzgruppen leaders to instigate “self-cleansing efforts” among the local population. This euphemism called for inciting anti-Jewish pogroms, disguised as the spontaneous actions of patriotic Lithuanians, against the Bolshevik and Jewish enemy.
