Second Jewish Law Of Hungary

Second Jewish Law Of Hungary
The law recognized the conversion of those Jews who had converted to Christianity before 1919 and whose family had resided in Hungary since 1848. There were about 90,000 converts in Hungary in 1941. About 60,000 Jews who had converted after 1919 were deported in 1944 along with the other Jews of the Hungarian countryside and towns. Converts who resided in Budapest, however, were exempt from the deportations, as were priests, nuns, and lay church officials. About 53,000 converts survived the Holocaust in Hungary.
