(The Rear Annex)
   The Rear Annex was the original title of The Diary of Anne Frank, which was published in the United States in 1952 by Doubleday after a series of rejections by publishers. Alfred A. Knopf, for example, found the diary “very dull,” dismissing it as a “dreary record of typical family bickering, petty annoyances and adolescent emotions.”
