At the Wannsee Conference on 30 January 1942, a discussion was held concerning the labor shortage that the German war economy was increasingly enduring. Using Jewish workers was, therefore, unavoidable but not a substitute for killing them, simply a different method of doing it. The euphemism “extermination through labor” was understood to mean that the Jews who survived forced labor would eventually be killed.
